Yoga in the Garden

Thu, 2017-11-02 17:45
Thursday, November 2, 2017, 5:45 – 6:30 p.m.

There is no better way to unwind at the end of a long day than through yoga practice and guided relaxation – and what finer place to practice than the tranquil setting of The Botanic Garden.  When we practice outside, we invite even greater energy into the body through our contact with the sun, soil and fresh air.  Bring your mat and join Yoga Therapist Carol Bender as we shed the worries of the day and welcome nature’s energy into body, mind and spirit. Each practice will incorporate a short centering practice, gentle yoga stretches and a guided relaxation.  In addition to a yoga mat, participants may want to bring sunscreen, water, and insect repellent and a small hand towel to make practice more enjoyable.  This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Wellness and OSU Botanic Gardens. In case of inclement weather the event will be held in the education building on sight.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) - College-level Finals

Wed, 2017-10-25 14:30
Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 2:30 – 4 p.m.

You are invited…
College of Human Sciences graduate students will participate in the College of Human Sciences’ 2017 Three Minute Thesis Competition Wednesday, October 25 at 2:30 pm in Jorns Hall (room 180) of Human Sciences.

The 3MT® is a professional development activity created at the University of Queensland in Australia to help graduate students acquire oral communication skills for presenting their research and conveying its societal significance to lay audiences in a concise and cogent manner. Students have only 3 minutes and one static slide to convey to the audience what they do and its importance in a manner that makes their hearers want to know more.

Students are essentially explaining what can be an 80,000 word thesis in three minutes or less, which means they must know and understand the essence of their research and be able to express its importance in a clear and engaging way for others to understand.

A panel of judges will select a first place winner who will receive $300 in prize money with $200 for second place, $100 for third, and $300 for a people’s choice selection.  The finalists from our college-level competition will advance to compete in the university’s 2017 OSU 3MT® Finals.

Please mark your calendar to attend, and let’s plan to pack the house, as there is a People’s Choice vote!
