Certificate for Emerging Leaders in Manufacturing - Critical Thinking: Leading Innovation and Value Creation

Tue, 2017-10-24 09:00
OSU-Tulsa
Tuesday, October 24, 2017, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Presenter: Andy Urich, J.D.

Both organizations and individuals profit from the ability to create value. High-value individuals have the ability to solve problems, make good decisions, and to create profitable ideas. This program focuses on the vital role that mindset and thinking play in the development of these skills. For the purpose of this program, critical thinking refers to thinking that is disciplined, objective, purpose driven and goal directed. With a practical emphasis, the definition is further defined to “using your brain to create value for you and your organization”. The program also includes an application for fighting bureaucracy and unleashing your creative and innovative spirit. This program is not intended for everyone. Participants will be encouraged to challenge the status quo and question conventional wisdom. In doing so, they will question core beliefs and world view and entertain the notion that we may never “have it all figured out”. In short, the goal is to help participants become conscious of their thought processes and to give them tools and ideas to improve the way they think.

Competencies met: Manages complexity | Decision quality | Cultivates innovation

Jake Shimabukuro Concert

Tue, 2017-10-17 20:00
Tuesday, October 17, 2017, 8 – 10 p.m.

Jake Shimabukuro can still vividly remember the first time he held a ukulele, at age four. It was an encounter that would shape his destiny and give the world one of the most exceptional and innovative ukulele players in the history of the instrument—an artist who has drawn comparisons to musical titans such as Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. Along with his own original compositions, Jake became noted for his solo ukulele arrangements of such varied pieces as Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Schubert’s “Ave Maria” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Shimabukuro’s instrumental music makes a significant statement: The ukulele, with its humble four strings and modest two-octave range, is an instrument limited only by the imagination and creativity of the person playing it. Come and enjoy this one-of-a-kind performance on Tuesday, October 17 in the Seretean Concert Hall at 8pm. Tickets available August 1 at tickets.okstate.edu
