The Qajar Lens: A Photo Exhibition

The Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies program of the School of Global Studies and Partnerships invites you to a special viewing of the Qajar Lens photo exhibition.The exhibition is on display from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday in Suite 201 Wes Watkins Center.



The exhibition showcases selected works of the court photographers of Nasser al-Din Shah, who was the King of Iran from 1848 to 1896. Nasser al-Din Shah promoted photography in his court and throughout Iran because he knew it was a sign of modernity. He created the first Iranian photography studio, the Royal Photo Studio of Iran, after the arrival of the French photographer Francis Carlhian in 1858.



Nasser al-Din Shah’s court photographers also traveled around Iran to take photos of the land and people. The photographs of The Qajar Lens show the daily of life of the king’s court and the Iranian people during Nasser al-Din Shah’s reign.



The Qajar Lens is a collaboration between the Golestan Palace Museum of Tehran and the Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies program of Oklahoma State University.

OSU alumni Brandon Hobson will be coming to Stillwater to read at Bliss Books on the evening of Monday, April 2nd, at 6 PM.  Brandon's new novel, Where the Dead Sit Talking, was recently published by Soho Press.



Brandon is an alumni of OSU's PhD in English with an emphasis in creative writing and is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation Tribe of Oklahoma. He is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, and his work has appeared in such magazines as The Believer, The Paris Review Daily, Conjunctions, NOON, Post Road, Narrative Magazine, and in many other places.



This event is sponsored by the Department of English, the OSU Creative Writing Program, and CWA.

Do you have an invention or technology that you think is ready for market Have you caught the "start-up" fever and want to explore your options? Have you received an NSF grant in the past and think you are ready to commericialize your research?

This one-hour Lunch and Learn event will tell you all you need to know about the OSU I-Corps Site Program and how we prepare you to compete for a national NSF I-Corps Grant for $50,000 toward commercialization of your research/invention/technology.

This short course introduces participants to the key concepts and methodologies used in I-Corps, which is the rigorous market assessment and validation program pioneered by the National Science Foundation (NSF).Teams that successfully complete this short course will be eligible to apply for either the NSF I-Corps program or the regional DC I-Corps program. Both programs use the same curriculum, largely based on current “Lean Launchpad” methodologies, and focus on early customer discovery and business model generation. Teams that successfully apply for the National NSF I-Corps program will receive a $50K grant. Teams that enter the Site program will receive nominal funding to explore the viability of taking your research to market, and will work with a regional network of advisors and venture mentoring service.

Farzaneh Speaker Series: John Glaser - What is America's Interest in the Middle East?

John Glaser, Director of Foreign Policy at the Cato Institute, will speak on America’s interest in the Middle East Monday, April 2, at noon in Wes Watkins Center Room 108. This will be the final Farzaneh Speaker Series talk for the Spring 2018 semester.



Glaser’s research interests include grand strategy, basing posture, U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, the rise of China, and the role of status and prestige motivations in international politics. Glaser has been a guest on a variety of television and radio programs and has had his work published in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs, The National Interest, CNN, and Time, among other outlets.



Glaser earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Arts in International Security at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University.



The talk is free, and all are welcome. Light Persian snacks will be provided.



The IPGS Farzaneh Speaker Series hosts top scholars and policymakers who are specialists of contemporary Iran and the Persian Gulf Region.

Strongest Cowboy

Compete in OSU’s annual strongman competition, the Strongest Cowboy! Awards will be given out to the top three performers in each weight class!  Join us the night before in the performance studio to familiarize yourself with the equipment before the competition on Saturday!

Men: Lightweight (up to 165), Middleweight (165-215) and Heavyweight (216 and above)

Women: Lightweight (up to 145) and Heavyweight (146 and above)
