Mold
Worries about possible mold come up in any residential living facility, particularly when the change in seasons leads to new or worsening allergies. However, the rate of finding harmful mold is incredibly low. Often, work orders for suspected mold turn out to be dirt or other debris.
Whenever a resident turns in a work order for suspected mold, Residential Life, in conjunction with Facilities Management, investigates the space thoroughly and quickly. Should harmful mold be found, it is remediated as soon as possible.
It’s important to know that mold is always present in the air, so mold detection kits available at home supply stores may detect the presence of mold but it does not mean there is dangerous mold. It just means someone successfully enables what was in the air to grow.
Our goal is to provide the best living experience, and we encourage residents to let us know as soon as possible if they have any issues with their living space.
You can help:
- Keep air vents clear and setting thermostats to “Auto” rather than “On.”
- Avoid blocking airflow around windows and reporting humidity issues early.
- Promptly notify hall staff if you notice any leaks, condensation or visible mold.
If mold is suspected, call the HRL Facilities and Maintenance Office at 405-744-8510.
