Find instructions for the thermostat in your residence hall or apartment. If your room isn't reaching the temperature you expect, these tips explain how your thermostat works and what to expect.

The energy-saving thermostat in The Commons and Bennett Hall automatically adjusts based on room occupancy to reduce energy use.

When you arrive
- Your room may feel warm when you first enter because the thermostat is in Unoccupied Mode.
- The thermostat uses motion sensors to detect when someone is in the room. If the thermostat does not respond after you enter, gently tap the image of Pistol Pete to activate it.
- Important: Touch the thermostat gently. Excessive force can damage the unit, and residents may be charged $500 for replacement.

Adjusting the temperature
- You can set the thermostat between 68°F and 75°F.
- The system automatically switches between heating and air conditioning as needed.
- After changing the temperature, allow a few minutes for the system to respond.
- Depending on the room's starting temperature, it may take up to an hour to reach your selected setting.

How energy-saving mode works
- When the last person leaves the room, the thermostat enters Standby Mode and adjusts the temperature to 78°F.
- After 16 hours with no occupancy, the thermostat enters Unoccupied Mode and adjusts the temperature to 80°F.
- If your room will be vacant for a weekend, holiday or university break, reactivate and reset the thermostat when you return.

Important reminders
- Do not prop open your room or apartment front door. Doing so causes the thermostat to enter Standby Mode and reset the temperature to 78°F.
- Keep the area around the thermostat clear so the motion sensor can detect room occupancy.
