Successful Transition from spring housing to summer conference
Posted June 1, 2026
Housing and Residential Life completed one of its busiest transition periods of the year, supporting the move-out of 5,200+ residents between May 3-11. This effort was made possible the HRL staff who assisted residents and families throughout the week. Staff also worked closely with ABM and FM to clean and prepare rooms on an accelerated timeline for incoming guests. Adding to the accomplishment, Spring 2026 move-out marked the first time HRL implemented the Express Checkout process for all residents.
On Wednesday, May 13, HRL Conference Services welcomed approximately 3,100 Oklahoma Special Olympics athletes, coaches, volunteers and the Games Committee members to campus and assisted with their departure later that same week.
Summer operations are now underway, with Conference Services expected to host 81 camps and conferences between May 18 and Aug. 1, welcoming an estimated 12,314 attendees to campus. In addition, HRL staff checked approximately 145 summer students into Village E for the summer term.
Housing Tests Smartphone Door Access in Apartments
Posted June 1, 2026
Housing and Residential Life is enhancing the on-campus residential experience through a pilot program that will introduce keyless/mobile access technology to approximately 100 apartment units.
Powered by Proxess, the system allows residents to securely access their private bedrooms using their smartphones, providing a convenient alternative to traditional keys. Apartment front doors will continue to use traditional keys. The system is managed through the university's identification and housing systems, creating a seamless experience for residents.
In addition to greater convenience, mobile access technology supports a safer and more responsive residential environment. Housing and Residential Life staff can manage access in real time, quickly address lost or compromised credentials, and maintain secure entry points throughout participating communities.
The system also reduces the need for physical keys for bedroom access and streamlines day-to-day operations, allowing staff to focus more time on resident services and community support. Regular maintenance and software updates help ensure the technology remains reliable and secure throughout the academic year.
The pilot program, which runs through May, will allow Housing and Residential Life to evaluate the benefits of mobile access technology while gathering feedback from residents. The initiative reflects the department's ongoing commitment to investing in modern amenities that enhance convenience, security, and the overall residential experience.

New Laundry Upgrades to Enhance Residential Experience
Posted May 27, 2026
Housing and Residential Life is enhancing the residential experience through a new partnership with Southeastern Laundry Services to provide upgraded, energy-efficient washers and dryers for on-campus students.
More than 1,400 new machines will be installed in July in traditional and suite-style residence halls, Brumley and University laundries and apartment utility rooms. The upgraded system is designed to provide students with greater convenience, reliability and sustainability.
Laundry rooms in traditional halls, suites and community spaces will feature insight technology, allowing residents to use a mobile app to check machine availability in real time. The app will help students better plan laundry around their schedules and reduce wait times.
As part of the partnership, Southeastern Laundry Services will also provide a dedicated campus technician for each workday, along with customer support signage and staff training.
The project reflects Housing and Residential Life’s ongoing commitment to improving the student residential experience and providing modern amenities that support daily campus living.
