We're glad you were part of our community! As you prepare to move out, follow the steps below to complete Express Checkout before leaving your residence.

If you would like to discuss the condition of your room before checking out, contact your RA.

Before You Begin

  • Need to break your lease during the semester? Visit breaking your lease.
  • Questions about charges, fines and fees, visit Financial Responsibility.
  • Failure to follow checkout instructions may result in Improper checkout fee(s).
  • Failure to submit keys to Desk Services will result in a lock change and mail keys.
  • Have gently used decorations that you would like to donate to housing showrooms? Email housingtours@okstate.edu with a photo and description of the item. If the item (s) can be used, our team will confirm a pickup time during pre-finals week or finals.

Summer 2026 Move-Out Deadlines

Residents must vacate their summer housing assignments by the deadline that applies to them:

  • July 29 at 5 p.m. – Residents transitioning to fall staff housing.
  • August 1 at noon – Residents without a fall housing assignment must move off campus.
  • August 2 at 5 p.m. – Residents transitioning to fall student housing.

Fall 2026 Move-Out Deadlines

  • Move-out must be completed 24 hours after your last final.
  • All residents must be moved out by Saturday, December 12, 2026, at 10 a.m.
  • Graduating seniors who receive pre-approval may remain in housing until Sunday, December 13, 2026, at 10 a.m. To request a late stay, please log in to the OSU Housing Portal and submit the Late Stay Form.

Spring 2027 Move-Out Deadlines

  • Move-out must be completed 24 hours after your last final.
  • All residents must be moved out by Saturday, May 7, 2027, at 10 a.m.
  • Graduating seniors who receive pre-approval may remain in housing until Sunday, May 8, 2027, at 10 a.m. To request a late stay, please log in to the OSU Housing Portal and submit the Late Stay Form.

Express Checkout

  • Step 1: Pick up an Express Checkout Key Envelope
    • Pick up an Express Checkout envelope from any Desk Services location.
    • Important: Once you submit the Express Checkout form, your card-swipe access to the building will be deactivated.
  • Step 2: Prepare your room

    Before leaving, make sure your room is completely ready for checkout.

    Remove your belongings

    • Remove all personal belongings.
    • Check closets, dressers, cabinets and desk drawers.
    • Pick up any remaining mail or packages from your mailbox and Desk Services.

    Clean the room

    • Wipe down all furniture, shelves and drawer interiors.
    • Clean windows and mirrors.
    • Remove contact paper from countertops and bulletin boards.
    • Remove tape residue from walls, furniture and windows.
    • Sweep, vacuum and/or mop the floor.
    • Do not remove Command™ or other peel-and-stick adhesive hooks. Facilities Management will remove them. Removing them yourself may damage the walls and result in damage charges.
    • For fish or turtle tanks
      • Empty water into a sink or drain.
      • Use a strainer to catch rocks or gravel.
      • Run cold water for two minutes afterward.

    Restore the Room

    • Beds must be assembled and secured.
    • Closet doors are installed.
    • Move furniture back to its move-in configuration.

    Dispose of Trash Properly

    • Use the large blue dumpsters provided.
    • Do not block the front of the dumpster.
    • Do not stack trash beside the dumpster.
    • If one dumpster is full, use the next nearest dumpster.
  • Step 3: Complete the ExpressCheckout Form
    • Scan the QR code on the envelope or log into the OSU Housing Portal.
    • Complete the Express Checkout form.
    • Lock your door(s) when you leave.
    • Important: Submitting your Express Checkout form will remove card-swipe access to your hall.
  • Step 4: Return Your Keys using the Express Checkout Envelope
    • Place your keys inside the envelope.
    • Seal the envelope.
    • Return it to  your hall’s Desk Service location. Look for the drop box if the desk is closed.
    • Mailed or shipped keys will not be accepted.
    • Failure to return keys may result in a lock change charge.

    For mid-semester lease cancellation, you will continue to be charged rent until your keys are returned.
