Traditional halls are the most common living experience for undergraduate students. These communities feature double-occupancy rooms and shared community bathrooms, creating an environment designed for connection and engagement.
Research shows that students who live in traditional halls are more likely to have strong academic outcomes, meet new people, build meaningful friendships and develop supportive social networks. The shared experience fosters community, collaboration and a sense of belonging that can positively shape a student’s college journey.

Starting college is a big step—and where you live makes all the difference. Traditional residence halls are not only a cost-friendly housing option, but they are also ideal for first-year students, offering built-in community and support right where you live. Built between 1949 and 1970, Stout, Wentz, Parker and Iba Halls have shaped generations of Cowboys. With decades of history and tradition, these halls continue to provide an engaging environment where students form lasting friendships and begin their OSU journey.
» Community Living with added Privacy
Opened in 2015, the University Commons Complex combines the community of traditional residence hall living with a more intimate cluster-style layout. Six to eight rooms share a nearby bathroom area with fully enclosed, lockable spaces for individual use. Daily custodial service keeps shared bathroom areas clean. Commons North is an all-women residence hall.
