  Housing assignments begin in mid-March for first-time freshmen who register for housing by the March 1 priority deadline. Students who meet the deadline are more likely to be paired with their preferred roommate.
  Students who attend an Admitted Student Day event, either in person or virtually, and register for housing by March 1 will be placed at the top of the housing assignment placement list.

• If you’re a first-year student, complete your OSU enrollment requirements, including your enrollment deposit. The date you pay your enrollment deposit is the primary factor in the first-year housing assignment process.

• Complete your housing registration through the OSU Housing Portal beginning Dec. 15, 2026, at 8 a.m.
• A $300 housing deposit is required for first-year non-freshmen housing registration.

Interested in living with students who share your interests? Apply for an LLP.

• Apply by Jan. 15, 2027, for LLP priority consideration.
• Submit your LLP application via the Oklahoma State Admissions Application Portal.
• Complete your housing registration through the OSU Housing Portal.

• If you're eligible to rank housing preferences or create a roommate group, complete those steps by March 1, 2027, for priority consideration.
• After March 1, new residents cannot create or change roommate groups or housing preferences.

• First-year freshmen students who are subject to OSU's freshman residency requirement and do not plan to live in university housing must request an exemption.
• The Freshman Housing Exemption form is available through the OSU Housing Portal beginning Dec. 15, 2026, at 10 a.m. The form closes Aug. 1, 2027, at 5 p.m.
• Students who have completed their housing registration can submit an Intent to Exempt beginning Feb. 15, 2027, at 10 a.m. The Intent to Exempt period closes June 1, 2027, at 5 p.m.
• Reminder: First-year students who are under 21, unmarried, and without dependents are required to live in university housing. Students who do not meet this requirement must either be granted an exemption or pay the freshman noncompliance fee (equal to the cost of two semesters of housing). For 2027-28, the freshman noncompliance fee is $2,767 for the fall semester plus $2,767 for the spring semester for a total of $5,534.

• Initial housing assignments for new residents begin the week of March 22, 2027. You'll receive an email in your okstate.edu email when your assignment is available.
• For first-year freshmen, the initial assignment process considers factors including Admitted Student Day attendance, enrollment deposit paid date, roommate pair, housing preference and available space.
• Transfer students and other new residents are assigned based on available space and the applicable assignment process.

• Your housing registration may remain active while housing staff continues making assignments as space becomes available.
• First-year freshmen students: If you completed your housing registration but did not receive an assignment during the initial assignment period, housing assignments will continue throughout the spring and summer.

If you receive a housing assignment but would like to request a different option, room swaps and waitlists open June 1, 2027, at 10 a.m. and close June 30, 2027, at 5 p.m. Log in to the OSU Housing Portal.

Waitlist: Request a different housing option based on available space.

Room swap: Exchange rooms with another student who agrees to the swap.

Room swaps are not available to residents assigned to an LLP. LLP residents who want to leave their LLP must use the waitlist process.

If your request has not been made by July 15 at 5 p.m., you will keep your current room assignment. (Note: Room change form opens after Labor Day.)

When move-in appointments become available, log in to the OSU Housing Portal to select your move-in appointment.

Cancellation requirements vary by student type.

First-year freshmen.

• Before arrival, you can cancel your housing registration through the admissions withdrawal, deferment, fraternity or exemption process.
• If you don't attend or reschedule your Orientation and Enrollment session within two weeks, your housing assignment may be canceled and their registration held.

Other new residents. Non-first-year students can request cancellation through the OSU Housing Portal.

For eligible enrolled students, cancellation fees may apply based on when the housing registration is canceled:

• June 2-July 31: $1,000
• August 1 through the fall restrictive add/drop date: $1,500 plus rent if the resident has checked in
• After the fall restrictive add/drop date: $750 plus remaining rent for the semester
