Use the Housing Exemption Request form if you have not signed a university housing contract or do not need to complete housing registration.

1. Sign in to the OSU Housing Portal using your O-Key credentials.

2. Select Forms and open the Housing Exemption Request form.

3. Select the exemption reason that best applies to your circumstances.

4. Upload all required supporting documentation.

5. Submit your completed request by the published deadline.

Submit all documents required for your exemption criteria by the applicable deadline. Incomplete requests or requests missing required documentation may be denied.

Housing and Residential Life may request additional documentation to verify eligibility.

The Housing Exemption Committee reviews requests and supporting documentation. The committee may contact you if additional information is needed.

The committee meets every two weeks. Review activity is typically highest during the summer and the weeks leading up to the fall semester.

Submitting your request early helps allow time for review.

If your request is approved, follow the instructions in the portal to accept the exemption and finalize your status.

If you do not accept an approved exemption, you remain subject to the Freshman Residency Requirement and must live in university housing or may be charged the Freshman Noncompliance Fee.

If you remain in university housing, complete all applicable registration and move-in requirements.

You must continue living with a parent or legal guardian whose residence is within 40 miles of Oklahoma State University.

Required documentation:

• A valid Oklahoma driver's license or Oklahoma state identification card for each parent or legal guardian listed in your student records.

• The address shown on the identification must be within 40 miles of OSU.

Submit one of the following:

• DD Form 214.

• Active military orders dated within the previous six months.

Submit documentation applicable to your circumstances:

• Marriage certificate.

• Birth certificates for your dependents.

• A guardianship letter or order signed by a judge, when applicable.

Students participating in fraternity recruitment must submit the appropriate exemption form based on whether they have signed a housing contract.

• Housing Exemption Request: Submit the Interfraternity Council (IFC) Bid Card by [insert approved 2027–28 deadline].

• Intent to Exempt Request: Submit the IFC Bid Card by [insert approved 2027–28 deadline].

Failure to submit the appropriate form and required documentation may result in applicable housing cancellation fees. Review the Financial Responsibility information for details.

If your circumstances do not fit one of the categories above, select the applicable option on the form and upload documentation supporting your request.

The committee reviews requests and supporting documentation to determine eligibility. Approval is not guaranteed.

A4. Students who receive and accept a sorority bid requiring them to live in chapter housing may be eligible to submit a Transfer Permit through the sorority recruitment process. This is separate from the Housing Exemption Request process and is not subject to the standard exemption deadlines.

Follow the instructions provided by Housing and Residential Life and submit the Transfer Permit and required documentation by the applicable deadline. You may transfer to chapter housing after approval.

A7. No. Students who are 21 or older by the first day of classes are automatically exempt from the Freshman Residency Requirement. You may still apply for university housing if you wish to live on campus.
