The Four E Model
Our Vision
The Four E Model forms the foundation of HRL's vision for an exceptional Residential
Experience.
» Engage...
Facilitates interaction with peers, staff, faculty and the university community
- Home to 5,800 undergraduate students
- 160+ community mentors (CMs). These student leaders live in the halls and provide advocacy, intervention, mentorship and support to fellow residents.
- Each CM hosts 3 in-hall social programs and events each semester to help residents get to know each other.
- Late Night—ResLife's premiere social event—is held 3 times a semester to bring all residents together.
» Educate...
Develops the faculties and powers of our students through holistic instruction
- Each semester we partner with other camp departments to share information about important
topics in residential spaces. Examples include:
-
- "Hot Tips for Fire Safety" by Environmental Health and Safety
- "Sweet Conversations: Indulge in Dessert and Sexual Wellness" by Department of Wellness
- "Rolling in the Dough" by Financial Aid
-
- Students can participate in informal study groups and study sessions.
- Twice a semester community mentors (CMs) hold floor meetings to educate residents about housing policies, OSU resources and how to be a good community member.
» Embrace...
Creates an environment where everyone is accepted and makes positive contributions
- Housing staff provides a wide range of activities for residents—including competitions, movie nights, crafts and online games—so every student can feel they belong. Community mentors (CMs) are always happy to hear suggestions or ideas for activities.
- Residents may organize and host volunteer opportunities with fellow residents.
» Empower...
Creates a culture where students develop the skills to voice and share their thoughts
and ideas and pursue leadership opportunities
- Multiple student jobs and leadership positions are available.
