Cold temperatures expected

How to prepare your on-campus living space

Update January 14, 2024

We are asking Carraker West residents to let water faucets, including the showers, drip during this freezing weather. It can help prevent the pipes from bursting.

Update January 11, 2024

We're taking precautions due to predicted cold temps. In addition to our current rounds of inspecting the halls and common areas, we're entering resident spaces to ensure the heat is functioning and no pipes are leaking. The halls are open, and we are glad to have you back.

January 10, 2024

With arctic temperatures, high winds and low wind chills expected beginning Friday, Jan. 12, we can work together to ensure campus living spaces are warm and safe. If you will be on campus before the cold weather hits, please prepare your on-campus living space by completing the following tasks:

  • Make sure your HEAT is on.
  • Set HEAT to AUTO and a minimum of 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Open cabinet doors below sinks.
  • Make sure all doors and windows are securely closed and fastened.
  • You may notice condensation and/or frost forming on your windows, especially north-facing windows. This is normal for the type of window featured in many of the housing areas.
  • Stay safe, warm and weather-aware.

» And remember, the residence halls are open during breaks. Residents are welcome to return early to avoid traveling in bad weather.

How to report a Maintenance Issue

  • Call 405.744.8510 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Call 405.744.7154 for after-hours, on weekends and holidays, and during university closures.

Let's end 'tailgating': Keep unauthorized people out halls

Posted October 16, 2023

Let's end 'tailgating'—no, not that kind of tailgating! Tailgating, also called piggybacking, is a when an unauthorized person follows an authorized individual into a building. This is a type of physical security breach that endangers residents.

For your safety, help us keep unauthorized people out of the residential halls.

  • Use a swipe card for entrance.
  • Don't hold doors open or open doors for others to enter.
  • Make sure doors close after entering.
  • Don't prop doors open.
